Judith Kerr Primary School is a partnership of several groups and bodies, from the multi-academy trust that operates the school, to parent and pupil groups that assist in the day-to-day running of the school. The main groups and their functions are set out below.
CfBT Schools Trust (“CST”)
CST is a charity that operates JKPS and 15 other academies and free schools under contract with the Secretary of State for Education. All CST schools are publicly funded and accountable. It is the legal entity that employs all school staff and contracts with third parties.
CST is managed by an executive team that provides educational, safeguarding, finance, property, and other support to schools in the Trust. The executive team is accountable to the Trustees of CST, who have the ultimate legal responsibility for what happens in CST schools.
CST is in turn part of Education Development Trust, an international education company that is also a registered charity.
Local Governing Body of Judith Kerr Primary School (“LGB”)
The LGB is a committee appointed by the Trustees of CST to oversee the performance and development of JKPS and to ensure that the school continues to fulfil its founding mission. It has delegated responsibility for strategy, monitoring, school improvement, communication, and collaboration. It also supports school leadership on Special Educational Needs, recruitment, and admissions.
Governors are appointed for a four year term, which can be renewed. Seven of the school’s eight non-staff governors are currently parents at the school. Whilst the size of the LGB is limited in the interests of efficiency, anyone may apply to become a governor when there is a vacancy.
Head of School and Senior Leadership Team (“SLT”)
The SLT is responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the school and for recommending strategies to meet the school’s objectives and priorities. They ensure the effective deployment of our enthusiastic staff team and manage the teaching and learning in the school.
The SLT is ‘line managed’ by executives in CST; they are also accountable to and strongly supported by the LGB.
JKPS set up the Parent Council in 2014. It comprises parents representing each class in the school. The Parent Council is a consultative body that facilitates communication and partnership between parents, the SLT and the LGB, to discuss concerns and developments, and to encourage support for the teaching and learning in class, and to feed in constructive suggestions for improvements. Two members of the LGB are link governors with the Parent Council and regularly attend meetings.
Friends of Judith Kerr Primary School (“FoJKPS”)
The FoJKPS is a registered charity whose purpose is to raise funds to support the school. It does this by organising events of all kinds, including our hugely successful and enjoyable summer and winter fairs. The FoJKPS has its own trustees and officers. Whilst it liaises closely with the SLT and governors over priorities, it makes its decisions independently from the school.
Anyone may join the Friends and sign up to their mailing list here.
The School Council is a pupil body comprising 2 children from each class, elected by their peers. The School Council meets periodically with the Head of School to discuss the school environment and to put forward their ideas for improvements.
